Tourism in Burgundy and wine trail
Chablis and vine culture
With about 2700 inhabitants, Chablis is the birthplace of a very old vineyard dating from the 12th century. In the 19th century, the Chablis wines were exported in many countries of Northern Europe. Its reputation is known all over the world as we can read in "Anna Karenina" written by Leon Tolstoy that she enjoyed French wines, especially the Chablis one.
Today we all know the name of Chablis. Nevertheless, the quality of the wine remains the same. It can be produced only in France and on 6830 hectares maximum. There are 4 different "appellations contrôlées": Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, Chablis Grand Cru.
